American Boxwood is a slow growing shrub that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 6A through 8B. It matures to an average height of 5 feet to 8 feet and an average width of 4 feet to 8 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun, morning sun with afternoon shade or morning shade with afternoon sun and grows best when planted in loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained. The foliage is dark green in color.

American Boxwood can be useful in the landscape in foundation plantings, as a background, in landscape beds or islands, to frame the corners of a home or other building, to add property value, to accentuate entryways, in small groupings or as a hedge and also in cottage gardens.
